Meet Dr. Pabo!

Pabo currently serves as Co-President for Author by Humana, a dual transformation company incubated and operated as a business segment within Humana. In her Co-President role, she serves as the external leader of the company overseeing business and growth strategy, marketing and communications, consumer design, insights and experience, as well as organizational effectiveness and has joint P&L responsibility for the business.  She also continues to serve as Chief Health Officer for Author, which she has been in since the company’s inception and, in this role, she is responsible for the Author’s customer service, clinical strategy and clinical operations.  Author’s reason to believe is to knock down barriers to health and serve as a catalyst to help people live their best lives on their terms.  The health team that Pabo leads is that catalyst, providing a wide range of tech enabled services ranging from social support services to disease management to direct care delivery in critical areas such as behavioral health.  Her health team has also executed new utilization management approaches at Author, utilizing machine learning to remove friction and manual work from the process while still ensuring that they can serve as thoughtful stewards of healthcare resources for consumers.

She continues to serve as faculty at Harvard Medical School and to see patients a half day per week as a primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Advanced Primary Care Practice, South Huntington – a level III NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home. She also continues to serve as Associate Faculty at Ariadne Labs, which is a joint health system innovation center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health working to save lives and reduce suffering by creating scalable solutions that improve health care delivery at the most critical moments for people everywhere.

Prior to joining Humana, she served as Medical Director for Population Health and Associate Medical Director for Brigham and Women’s Hospital Primary Care Center of Excellence, overseeing the population health management portfolio for all of primary care’s covered lives as well as helping overseeing primary care growth, operational improvement and care delivery innovation in areas ranging from behavioral health and substance use to chronic disease management to physician wellness.

Prior to her work at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she worked in early stage technology, building tools for chronic disease management at Twine Health (now acquired by Fitbit) as well as previous work at Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the Global Health Delivery Project.  Dr. Pabo has written and presents regularly on primary care redesign, tech enabled chronic disease management and population health at national conferences.  She has also provided consulting services to various health care companies, incubators and investors.

Pabo earned a BA in History of Medicine from Yale College, a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine in both the Primary Care and Management and Leadership tracks at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is ABIM board certified in Internal Medicine.  She lives in Boston, MA with her husband Eric, her two sons Jasper and Silas, and chocolate Labrador Wally.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, running, cycling, hiking and kitesurfing.
